Pollywog to Shellback
On March 9, 2017, I became a shellback. I crossed the equator. The Semester At Sea tradition began by a 6:30 a.m. parade of faculty, staff and crew members drumming and banging on our cabin doors. We were encouraged to hurry to the pool deck. Each pollywog had green fish guts poured on their head. Then we jumped in the pool, swam to the other side and kissed the dead fish. To complete our initiation, we kissed the captain’s ring.
It was a rewarding and memorable day!
Enjoy the photos :)
